The Accident

On a damp and cold day in May the much-anticipated 1st and 2nd round of the Ginetta GT5 Challenge was due to be run. An ominous start led to a safety car in the 2nd round and everyone’s nerves were on edge. Unfortunately for car 83 driven by CDW Motorsport’s Christ White; one of the title contenders in the amateur division; a pro driver lost control in the greasy conditions and found themselves in an unavoidable position in Chris’s path. Seconds later the damage was done.

Back in the paddock the assessment of the damage showed that there was very little left of the front body work and a hefty repair bill. Literally only the passenger door and mirror were salvageable. Luckily for Chris and CDW Motorsport there wasn’t too much structural damage, and the car would race again once reskinned.

Chris made an appeal on LinkedIn for help in rebuilding his wrecked Ginetta GT5 and the appeal was forwarded to Heinz Meyer (Founder and owner of Crockery Direct) by his brother Ralph. Crockery Direct saw this as an opportunity to step into their next phase of advertising and brand awareness whilst helping out CDW Motorsport. The deal was struck; and a sponsorship agreement was constructed to help CDW Motorsport rebuild the car and continue racing for the rest of the season.

With 5 race weekends remaining all that needed doing was to rebuild the car and get branding on.

The remaining races in 2021 would be:

Silverstone GP (British GT) – 26 / 27 June

Donington Park GP (British GT) – 10 / 11 July

Snetterton (British GT) – 07 / 08 August

Croft (BTCC) – 18 / 19 September

Donington Park GP (British GT) – 16 / 17 October
